La Roque 2019 - Mas del Périé - Fabien Jouves - AOC Cahors

C'est une cuvée issue des plus hauts côteaux des terroirs de Mas Del Périé, un 100 % Malbec ayant poussés sur des marnes brunes datant de la période du Miocene.

The grapes are harvested by hand and the vinification is done naturally using indigenous yeasts. A 30-day vatting period precedes the maturing process, which takes place in concrete vats for 6 months.

On the palate, it is an explosion of black fruit, blackberry and prune notes gently give way to a light smoky note. The silky texture hides a light acidity quite appreciable.

La Roque is a terroir wine that shows Fabien Jouves' ability to make fresh wines from very sunny soils.

It will sublimate a white meat in sauce, such as a chicken basquaise.

Coming from an old peasant family, Fabien Jouves started his career as an oenologist in the Bordeaux vineyards.

It was only in 2006 that he took over the family estate to make Mas Del Périé, 15ha of vines that he very quickly led towards biodynamic viticulture. The young winegrower has a choice terroir, as the vineyard is located on the highest slopes of Cahors (382m altitude).

Fabien Jouves gives his time to the land, and shows us that it is possible to make fresh wines in a warm climate.

The vinification of the grapes is done naturally, no oenological input is added, the wines evolve quietly in vats, tuns or barrels according to their personality.
