Merla is one of the estate's natural cuvées, whose vines are planted in the heart of a bird sanctuary. It is made from Mataro (Mourvèdre) grapes. After maceration and fermentation at 25°C for 20 days followed by a light pressing, the wine is put into barrels for malolactic fermentation. After 6 months of ageing it is finally bottled. No sulphur dioxide or other products are added during the elaboration of this wine.
Merla reveals intense aromas of black fruits, mainly blackberry and liquorice with subtle roasted notes due to the ageing process. The palate is well-balanced with acidity giving it a nice freshness and supple, silky tannins.
Alta Alella is the culmination of a family project by Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets and Cristina Guillén Soldevila, which began more than 20 years ago and is located between the villages of Tiana and Alella, in the middle of the privileged agricultural area of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park. The vineyards overlook the Mediterranean Sea, which is less than 2 kilometres away, and have been farmed organically since Josep Maria arrived, with the aim of producing transparent wines where the authentic expression of the terroir and climate is reflected in each of their wines. Today the estate covers 50 hectares with typical and even forgotten grape varieties of the region.
