A great year with wines of exceptional richness. The excessive heat of July, August and September produced concentrated and intense wines similar to Ports. The harvest was very abundant.
The Pomerols and Saint-Emilions are the big winners of this vintage. Like the legendary Pétrus or Cheval Blanc, the wines are rich and smooth. If Château Le Caillou is less famous than the latter two, but it is no less delicious.
The 1947 Château Le Caillou has retained its substance and concentration despite its age, a fine representation of this historic vintage on the Right Bank and its good ageing potential.
